  • Japan share market finished session lower on Thursday, 30 March 2023, snapping three straight sessions of gains despite the broadly positive cues from global markets overnight, as investors sold shares after securing rights for dividend payments ahead of the end of the current fiscal year on Friday.

    The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average index was down 100.85 points, or 0.36%, to finish at 27,782.93. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 12.16 points, or 0.61%, to 1,983.32.

    Total 28 of 33 TOPIX sectors closed lower along with broader Topix index. Rubber Products was the best performing sector, gaining 0.9%, while Oil & Coal Products was bottom performing sector, falling 2.9%.

    CURRENCY NEWS: The U.S. dollar appreciated to the lower 132-yen range in Tokyo. The dollar fetched 132.36 yen compared with 132.84 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
