  • Indices trade with minor losses; Nifty above 15,750

  • The key barometers were trading with minor losses in early afternoon trade. At 12:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 62.98 points or 0.12% at 52,525.73. The Nifty 50 index lost 18.60 points or 0.12% at 15,754.15.

    In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.33% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.18%.

    The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1,792 shares rose and 1,293 shares fell. A total of 144 shares were unchanged.

    Coronavirus Update:

    Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 17,91,12,729 with 38,82,531 deaths. India reported 6,43,194 active cases of COVID-19 infection and 3,90,660 deaths while 2,89,94,855 patients have been discharged, according to the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

    As of now, India's total tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 3-crore mark with one crore infections being added in 50 days. The total tally mounted to 3,00,28,709, with 50,848 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day. The death toll climbed to 3,90,660 with 1,358 fresh fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday, 23 June 2021.

    India's total COVID-19 infections had surpassed the one-crore mark on 19 December 2020 after which it took around 136 days to cross the 2-crore mark on 4 May 2021. The active cases further declined to 6,43,194 comprising 2.14% of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.56%, the data updated at 8 AM showed.

    Derivatives:

    The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, jumped 3.05% to 15.1875. The Nifty 24 June 2021 futures were trading at 15,774, at a premium of 19.85 points as compared with the spot at 15,754.15.

    The Nifty option chain for 24 June 2021 expiry showed maximum Call OI of 86.1 lakh contracts at the 15,800 strike price. Maximum Put OI of 48.1 lakh contracts was seen at 15,600 strike price.

    Buzzing Index:

    The Nifty PSU Bank index rose 1.09% to 2,505.70. The index has added 5.30% in three sessions.

    UCO Bank (up 5.15%), Punjab National Bank (PNB) (up 3.87%), Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) (up 1.69%), Bank of Baroda (up 1.65%) and Canara Bank (up 1.52%) gained.

    Stocks in Spotlight:

    ISGEC Heavy Engineering gained 0.24%. The company bagged the order for the 100th Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) boilers. ISGEC Heavy Engineering stated that this was due to its ongoing technical collaboration with Sumitomo SHI FW (formerly, Foster Wheeler). Sumitomo SHI FW has supplied Ultra-supercritical CFBC boilers for the 2,200 MWe (megawatt-electrical) project at KOSPO in Samcheok, South Korea. This plant has 4 x 1570 tonnage per hour (TPH) ultra-supercritical CFBC boilers, that have now been in operation for over 3 years.

    Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers advanced 3.98% after the company said that the new 250-ton Goliath Crane has been commissioned on 22 June 2021 at main works unit of the company at an approximate cost of Rs 155 crore. The Goliath Crane has enhanced the capacity of the modernized infrastructure facility of the company's shipyard. It is a vital asset for construction and repair of wide range of modern and strategic warships.
